An empowered community where individuals seek help when needed and communities work together to support sufferers on their mental health journey.
To remove the stigma of mental illness in our community, encourage help seeking behaviour and raise the level of community competence in supporting someone with mental health issues.
The Lets Talk values are Kindness, Compassion, Respect, Acceptance, Openness, Helpfulness.
Learn self care
Find ways to look after yourself and maintain your mental wellbeing
Express your feelings
Sharing your feelings is an important link to improving mental health
Make sure those around you are aware so they can help
Someone loves you
The important people in your life are just a phone call away
If someone around you doesn’t seem themselves, start a conversation
A simple question like ‘how are you going’ can get a conversation started
Showing someone you care can improve their state of mind
The more we talk about mental health, the less stigma it will carry
To quote a family member bereaved “if only they felt they could talk to someone, that it’s OK to be struggling and help is here…” This thought resonated with so many of the families and friends who lost someone to suicide.
The LETS TALK foundation took this message and turned it into a community wide action. The message is clear and concise:
1 End stigma around mental illness and distress
2 Encourage help seeking
3 Increase the community knowledge
